East Side Goes West Side
Finally made it to the west coast; San Francisco, California! Only took 25 years, but I am here!
Arriving a few days early for a work trade show, I decided to wander the city with no plans in mind. This was partially based on procrastination to plan and more so on my frugal wallet. With my comfiest Nike’s and camera in hand, I wandered from Civic Center all the way to – just barely – the Golden Gate Bridge. 5 miles in, 5 miles back. I also did this the following day and I can’t say I could walk comfortably for the next week…. Boy, is this what it feels like to be old??? My hip hurt for days. This was a clear sign that I needed to get into better shape. I seriously can’t let 20 miles make me feel like I’m 65.
As you can see, I hit some of the main spots. Full House? Yes! I don’t think I could have gone to San Fran without that shot. Unfortunately, I wasn’t well educated before hand, not realizing there were two different locations. The iconic shot below of the painted ladies actually isn’t the house that they “live” in. I first walked to the full house house, to find a few people outside taking photos of an estranged house. Since filming, the house has been painted and revamped, losing the essence of its known look. Fortunately, just a 15 minute walk away was the famous spot. Mobbed by people taking selfies and enjoying the view, there they were, the famous painted ladies. Check that one off the list!
From there I did all of the other touristy spots that I could by foot; Golden Gate Bridge, Crissy Field, Palace of Fine Arts, Ghiradelli square, Coit Tower, Pier 39, and China Town.
But you see… I just need to go back. I don’t know if I would want to live there, but I feel like I didn’t give it a fair shot. It’s very different from Boston… What do you think about San Francisco?
